The Chesterfield Concert Band is comprised of musicians from all areas of Chesterfield County and Richmond, as well as Chester, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Dinwiddie, Disputanta, Prince George, Goochland, Powhatan, Amelia, and others.
Our membership is quite unique, as well as diverse. Several of our members are music educators who are still working in local school systems, others have retired. Other members are professional or semi-professional musicians who play regularly in other musical ensembles and bands in the area, yet they play in this band with other musicians of every level who only play in this band, or perhaps with a church, or other small band. Some of our band members have only played in bands in high school or college,
and joined us when they decided that they wanted to start playing their instruments again. We all come together to form a wonderful family of music and friendship ...
To become a member of the Chesterfield Concert Band, you must be 18 years of age or older, provide your own instrument, and be able to read and play at a minimum, Grade 3 level music.
If you are interested in playing in our Concert Band, please contact the band President at 804-921-6119, or send an email to her through this website, or at daniikyria@gmail.com.
You will be contacted by the Band President, who will give you more information about the band, and refer you to the Section Leader for the instrument that you play. The Section Leader will contact you to learn more about you, and to give you more information about the section, and let you know if there is an opening in that particular section. If there is currently not an opening in the section, the Section Leader will ask if you would like to leave your information with them, to be contacted when an opening does become available.
If there is an opening in the section, you will be invited to rehearsal, where you will be seated next to the Section Leader, or someone designated by them. The Section Leader conducts an evaluation for a period of up to six weeks to determine which part is best suited for you in the section, however, the determination may be made at any time during that six weeks, and sometimes it has been the first rehearsal. There are no "seats" or "chairs" in this band, other than that the Section Leader is the First Part and primary soloist in each Section.
Each Section Leader has full discretion to determine where members are seated in their section. In the rare instance that a prospective member is not able to read and play music, the
Section Leader and/or Director would have a discussion with
them to explain that they do not meet the minimum membership requirements, and would suggest that they take lessons until such time that they meet the requirements.
Membership in the Jazz Ensemble is by invitation only, and is limited.
